Flying Colors

Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 9, 2026

Overview

Flying Colors is a U.S. civics learning platform built on the official USCIS civics question bank, currently available to schools, co-ops, and programs. This Privacy Policy covers the public website at flyingcolors.school and student use of the Flying Colors learning application. We do not sell personal information, we do not run third-party advertising, and we do not track users across other companies' apps or websites.

Information we collect

Website inquiries. When you submit a demo, pilot, or family-interest inquiry, we collect the information you provide: first name, last name, state, email or work email, how you heard about us, and any optional message you choose to send. For school and group inquiries, we also collect role and school, co-op, or program. These forms are intended for adults, including school representatives and parents/guardians, not students.

Blog comments. If you comment on our blog, we collect the name you choose to display, your email address (used for verification and moderation, never published), and the text of your comment. Comments are reviewed before they appear.

Learning accounts. Accounts for the learning application include a name and email address and, for school deployments, role and class or program associations set up with the school.

Learning records. As students use Flying Colors, we store lesson progress, practice and diagnostic answers and results, game activity and scores, and mastery views so practice can continue across sessions and authorized adults can see progress.

Support communications. If you contact us, we keep the messages and contact details you share so we can respond.

Technical and security information. We use basic technical information, such as request details used for rate limiting, abuse prevention, and keeping the service reliable and secure.

How we use information

  • To operate the website and the learning application, including signing users in.
  • To deliver lessons, practice, and review, and to save progress across sessions.
  • To show progress to authorized adults, such as a parent, guardian, teacher, or program administrator.
  • To respond to inquiries, comments, and support requests.
  • To protect the service against abuse, fraud, and security threats.
  • To understand how the product is used so we can improve it.

Service providers

Flying Colors runs on Amazon Web Services, which provides our hosting, authentication, database, and email-delivery infrastructure. Service providers process information on our instructions to operate the service, not for their own purposes.

Children and student data

The learning application is built for students, including students under 13. Student accounts are provisioned through a school, co-op, or program (and, when family access opens, by a parent or guardian). Student information is used only to provide the service: it is never sold, never used for advertising, and never used to build profiles for non-educational purposes. Access to a student's information is limited to that student, authorized adults such as a parent, guardian, teacher, or administrator, and our staff when needed to provide support. We work with schools to support their obligations under applicable student-privacy laws, including FERPA. Schools, parents, and guardians may request access, correction, export, or deletion of student records at any time.

Your choices and requests

You can ask us to update or delete information you have submitted, request a copy of it, or ask questions about how it is handled. See our Data Retention policy for how long information is kept, and our Support page for how to make a request. Some requests may require us to verify identity, account authority, or school authorization before we can complete them.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update this page and the date above. Continued use of the website or the learning application after a change means the updated policy applies.
